Guizhou Electric Power Vocational and Technical College, referred to as "Guizhou Electric Power Vocational College". It is the first batch of Higher Vocational and Technical College of electric power in China. It is the only Vocational College of electric power under the Southern Power Grid Company (including Guizhou, Guangdong, Yunnan, Guizhou and Qiongzhou provinces). It is also the first vocational college in Guizhou Province approved by the Ministry of Education to implement Sino-foreign joint education. Its industry characteristics are very distinct. In May 2012, with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education of China, Guizhou Electric Power Vocational and Technical College was approved as one of the first ten undertakings of China-ASEAN Education Training Center.
Guizhou Electric Power Vocational and Technical College was established on the basis of the former Guizhou Electric Power School and the former Guiyang Electric Power Technical School of the state-level key technical secondary school. It is the only electric power university newly established in the Southern Power Grid after the reform of the electric power system. There are also some famous correspondence teaching stations in Chongqing University and the National Institute of Vocational Skills Appraisal, which has become a modern education and training base integrating all kinds of academic qualifications, skills training and appraisal. In 2002, it was named "Provincial Civilization Unit" by Guizhou Provincial Government. In the same year, it was praised as "National Advanced Vocational Education Unit" by the Ministry of Education, the Economic and Trade Commission and other five ministries and commissions. In the past two years, the college enrollment rate and one-time employment rate in Guizhou Province have been among the top universities of the same kind.
Guizhou Electric Power Vocational and Technical College has two campuses in Guiyang City and suburbs, covering an area of 220,000 square meters and a building area of 100,000 square meters. The main campus is situated on the Bank of Hongfeng Lake in Guiyang, a beautiful national scenic spot. Campus is surrounded by mountains and rivers, shaded by green trees, and covered by modern buildings with various shapes. The scenery is pleasant.
贵州电力职业技术学院（Guizhou electric power vocational technology college），简称“贵州电力职院”。是全国首批成立的电力类高等职业技术学院，是南方电网公司（含黔、粤、滇、桂、琼五省区）下属内唯一的一所电力类高职院校，同时也是贵州省首家经教育部批准实施中外联合办学的高职院校，行业特色十分鲜明。 2012年5月，经中国外交部、教育部批准，同意贵州电力职业技术学院作为首批十个中国——东盟教育培训中心承办单位之一。
贵州电力职业技术学院是在国家级重点中专原贵州电力学校和国家级重点技工学校原贵阳电力技工学校的基础上优化组建的，是电力体制改革后新组建的南方电网内唯一的电力类高校。校内还设有重庆大学等著名高校函授站、国家职业技能鉴定所，已成为集各类学历教育、技能培训与鉴定于一体的现代教育培训基地 。2002年被贵州省政府命名为“省级文明单位”，同年被国家教育部、经贸委等五部委表彰为“全国职业教育先进单位”。近两年来学院招生报到率和一次性就业率在贵州省同类院校中一直名列前茅。
贵州电力职业技术学院拥有贵阳市区和市郊两个校区，占地22万平米，建筑面积10万平米。主校区坐落在风景秀丽的国家级风景区──贵阳红枫湖畔。校园依山傍水，绿树成荫，造型各异的现代建筑掩映其中，景色宜人。
